welcome back!
Hello! It's been a while since my last post here, but it felt like the time was right to start posing again; not on Facebook, Instagram, or Bluesky, but on a good old-fashioned blog. You see, the Internet is a store, but it used to be a library, and it could do with fewer sponsored Instagram posts and more blogs.
A bit has changed since I posted last – my wife and I had a son, we moved back to Melbourne, we travelled a bunch, Bandcamp got acquired (twice!) but I'm somehow still there, my whole family got really in to Lego, and I got really into photography. I also developed some very uncomplimentary opinions on generative AI, but those will have to wait for another day.
Other things haven't changed; I still dabble in music production, I still play games when I can, and I still run Linux as my main OS. I don't have as much time to dabble with Linux these days, though, and when PHP2Shell hit, it reminded me just how out-of-date the server hosting this blog was. For this revival, I've moved to Ghost, and for now at least I'll let the fine folk there run the infrastructure rather than self-hosting.
I did consider scrapping my old blog entirely and starting anew, but I'm still really proud of my writing here, and it makes me really sad when good content disappears from the Internet. We'll all just have to deal with the "LATEST" section having a bunch of posts from 2013 for now, until I add enough new content to make it less awkward. If you notice anything broken on those older posts, please let me know!
I don't know how often I'll post, but I'll try to make it at least a semi-regular thing. I already have one post in the bag about my favourite little camera, and I have a few other ideas on photography-related posts as well, so we'll see how we go!
